Langkawi is an island in northern Malaysia and is known to be a popular resort destination. In order to get the cheapest flight we took the 4 hour bus ride to Kuala Lumpur and stayed there for the Thursday night (March 9th). Abby and I woke up bright and early the Friday to get to the airport and arrived in Langkawi around 10am. Not really knowing exactly where to go, we got off the airport and headed to get a map. By the time I had picked up a map, Abby came to me and said, "Lianne, let's rent a car". My immediate thought was NOOO. But with a little convincing and thought we ended up renting the cutest little silver car. For 3 full days we payed about $40 dollars each, got the keys and were off to find a place to stay.

Our destination was Cenang beach. Driving through the beach strip we ended up seeing a sign for a dorm. Dormitories are exactly what they sound like, a bunch of people in one single room. Abby and I payed 25 ringgit each, 7 canadian dollars for the first night. Luckily, the big room was empty with only one other person staying there. We put our bags down, locked our passports up and headed to the beach!

Our dorm .... yikes
Saturday consisted of exploring the island. First thing was first we had to fill up the car though. To fill half the tank it only cost 10 Canadian dollars, quite different from back home that's for sure. We visited a crocodile farm and found a really beautiful waterfall. That night we hung out with the Swedish guy who was in our dorm and a German girl and planned to drive around the other side of the island.

On Sunday we went to two more waterfalls, monkey beach, and the popular Langkawi cable car. Our day ended off with enjoying some Langkawi nightlife. We headed home Monday morning back to Singapore, just in time for my Monday morning class at 11:30.

Langkawi was a peaceful trip. It was nice to explore more of Malaysia since it's so close too.
